Prologue
The question of Heimat is omnipresent these days - and yet so
controversial. The general answer is to be considered individually - and
not globally. According to Gerhard Handschuh, the term can be divided
into four dimensions: spatial, temporal, social and cultural. In this
magazine, emphasis is placed on the individual answer, of the socially
weak, to the question of their Heimat. The choice of the participants
was chosen because of the changed perspective due to the striking life
situation and the associated exclusion from the discourse. The intention
is to broaden the discourse to involve excluded people.

In order to incorporate these aspects in the production of the magazine,
work was done in the most resource-efficient way possible. Democratic
design is a design philosophy that aims to make good products available
to everyone at an affordable price. Therefore, in the production was
worked with the possible means. The response was made with the "Herlitz
- Colli Marker 1-4 mm" pen on a dotted A5 paper. The goal here was to
ensure as much freedom as possible when answering. Portraits were shot
with the iPhone X. Risography was the printing process we chose in which
70 copies were made.

The revenue we generate from the sale of the copies produced will be
donated to social institutions that help the homeless in Cologne. It was
especially important to us to involve the participants in the planning
of the donation and to ask them for advice. The entire "Heimat" project
is a voluntary social commitment that was realized without personal
monetary goals and was only initiated to broaden the discourse.
