recently, i became a licensed amateur radio operator. germany's federal network agency introduced a new entry class, and passing the test was easy for me because i studied about 8 minutes of anki's [1] each day for 2 months. i was probably ready earlier, but the next exam date was a long time away. my first transceiver is a quansheng handheld radio, which helped me make my first few contacts through local repeaters. it interested me because it is low-tech and off-grid. i also started using meshtastic [2] for off-the-grid text messages (no license required).
