Mon, 11 Dec 2023 01:15:00 +0100 FOOTBALL MANAGER the last few weeks i have been learning to code in c. except for html & css i do not know any other language so i am certainly no expert in coding. from what i see and read, it is one of the most established, easy to learn and efficient languages - plus all suckless[1] software is written in c. i managed to get a basic calculator working by using if/else statements to check which operator the user wants to use, there is where my knowledge currently stops. kevin toms programmed a football manager game for the spectrum zx back in 1982 and a few years ago i spend hours playing it. i am a sucker for manager games anyway from rollercoaster tycoon, which was written in assembly (i know!!) to city skylines. i wanted to make my own version of it to play in the terminal in c but obviously this i way too hard to do, for me at least. this is why i decided to let gpt do all the work and it turned out surprisingly well. currently, it is far from done and i plan to put some more work in it but i wanted to share it anyway. i managed to make it sell/buy players, have them gain or lose energy points dependent on which players you choose and a save and autoload function to keep your progress. it is buggy, easy to chat and breaks with only one wrong input, but let's see how far i can push this. it is on github [2], so feel free to try it out yourself and provide feedback. i also encourage you to try out kevin toms' original game if you are interested in such games.
